The Festive Season and New beginnings with New Language

As we draw a close to 2021 and a tough year, there are many lessons to be learned. Lessons are good if we take them as lessons and not as failures because lessons help us grow as individuals.

It’s also that time of the year when people have winded down and perhaps started a list of resolutions for the new year. However, resolutions are not sustainable as they last for the first few days of the year and then die a quick death.

Growth as a person is one of the best investments one can make and committing to this growth is imperative once you have set that direction and what you want to achieve, and a time within which you want to achieve it.

Learning a new language is a start. We get caught up in our daily routines, be it mundane or exciting, all the same, we get caught up in a routine. Expanding one’s mind is imperative and these can be achieved in many ways. Learning a new language is one of them. Why do you ask?

Learning a new language has the following benefits:

  • It improves your memory
  • Enables you to be a better multi-tasker
  • It encourages cultural appreciation
  • Speaking other languages enables you to be a better communicator
  • Learning a new language encourages creativity
  • Learning a new language exercise your brain and increases brain power (remember the brain is a muscle)
  • A new language makes travel easier and more enjoyable
  • It can preserve lesser known languages depending on what language you learn
  • Allows one to become more open- minded
  • Become a better global citizen (Creates cultural and diversity awareness)

There are many other benefits that one can research, however, spending a few hours a week on a new language can go a long way.

Instead of making a resolution that may not stick, take a more calculated approach to expand your mind. It will also certainly look more impressive on your resume, your Facebook and LinkedIn profile pages, and you may make more friends. There are no downsides if you commit to growth!

All the best for 2022 and look forward to catching you on the other side!

Happy holiday!
